Into the Whirlwind

Surrounded by deep darkness is where You rest.
I am but a child of clay, molded, and put to the test.
Why do you look down on me and watch all my days?
Not one has gone by, beyond your searching rays.
You bring to the surface all that is hidden beneath.
Outwardly spun by the storm, I’m twisted like a wreath.
You’re reshaping this being with truth like a knife.
Still too dry and rigid, you pour water upon this life.
Refreshed for a moment, but easily wearing thin.
How much can I take—the whirlwind is within.
It whispers, “Further still you must go.
Blameless and complete, then you will know.”
All around I see a wilderness and a desolate land.
So I fully surrender to the storm in the Master’s hand.
Now filled with true life—that Living Water I’m to carry,
Amid the whirlwind, under love and faith do I tarry.
Before and behind, you’re the shelter where I stay,
Held fast in uncertain darkness, You light my way.
They look upon my storm, saying I’m lost in the night.
By faith in You alone will prove the one in the right.
What fear is there when I’m surrounded by perfect love?
It is Your spirit within and around, the Divine Wind from above.
I have striven with people and God, yet only one blesses me,
Standing firm within the Whirlwind, awaiting the dawn to see.
